Practice

Practice is pretty important for just about any sports club, and Grace's CC is no exception.

Many of our new members join us to resume playing cricket after a lay-off, while some have learnt to play the game more or less from scratch with us. If you'd be in this situation if you became a member, the opportunity to get plenty of practice under your belt before taking the field gives you one less reason not to join us!

Needless to say, good-quality net sessions are also extremely valuable to even our most experienced and gifted players. Our commitment to regular nets offers all our playing members a chance to develop their techniques, form and confidence, while having some fun in a low-pressure environment.

However we do recognise that many people, especially in London, have extremely busy lives which may make regular attendance at practice difficult, and so this is in no way usually a pre-condition for selection.

Details

We practise at the Indoor School at Lord's. This offers the top-notch facilities you would expect at the home of cricket, and it also contains its own bar, to which we adjourn at the end of each session - meaning that our practices function as social occasions too. Because of this and the excellent viewing gallery, social members regularly come along to our sessions too.

Our most intensive training period is pre-season, weekly from the 4th of March, running for 8 weeks.

Directions to Lord's can be found by clicking here.

Please note that Lord's set down the following requirements for everyone using the Indoor School:
- indoor sports footwear, preferably white, to be worn in the nets;
- footwear with heavily ridged, studded or spiked soles are not permitted;
- conventional white cricket clothing to be worn;
- track suits and shorts may not be worn in the nets;
- maximum of six players in a net at any one time.
